Perforated Metal Open Area Calculator & Weight Calculator

Perforated metal sheet sample with round holes
Use pattern values for quick sourcing estimates, or enter a known open area from your drawing.

Enter Sheet & Hole Details

Choose a common hole type, add sheet size and material, then copy the RFQ summary.

Quick presets

Hole Pattern

For hexagonal, 45 degree staggered, decorative or drawing-specific patterns, use known open area mode and add a note.

Sheet & Order Details

Edge margins and drawing note

Use margins when the drawing has blank borders without perforation. Leave off for theoretical pattern weight.

How to Use

Select a common hole type, enter the hole size and pitch, then add sheet size, thickness, material and quantity. Use known open area mode when your drawing already gives the open area percentage.

Formula Notes

The calculator estimates open area from the repeating pattern, then calculates remaining material area and theoretical sheet weight. Blank edge margins can be added for a closer procurement estimate.

Perforated Metal Calculator FAQ

Does this calculator give the final perforated sheet weight?

No. It gives a procurement estimate for RFQ preparation. Final weight depends on drawing, tolerance, blank edge margins, material grade, surface treatment and production method.

What if my drawing uses hexagonal, decorative or 45 degree staggered holes?

Use known open area mode if your drawing or supplier data already states the open area percentage, then add the pattern note and send the drawing for confirmation.

Why do edge margins matter for perforated metal weight?

Open area formulas normally apply to the perforated pattern area. Blank edge margins remain solid and can increase the real sheet weight.

Can the style preview image be sent with the inquiry?

The calculator sends a text style reference in the RFQ summary. It does not upload or store a generated image; final production should still be confirmed by drawing or sample.
